Hey! I’m Gabriel Willem & I’m an American actor, translator, facilitator, and theatre maker in Bristol, UK.
I received my MFA in Acting from Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and after a little stint in London, am now in Bristol as my home. I’m originally from Indianapolis, Indiana, where I started my creative career. I grew up dancing from a young age, but eventually fell into acting in high school and have been stuck ever since.
Before moving to the UK, I trained at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a BFA in Acting and BA in Spanish with a Certificate in Translation Studies (a mouthful, I know). I’m passionate about telling stories of those who have been historically silenced - accessibility is a gigantic love of mine and integral to everything I do.
I’m a proud disabled & queer trans man, and I like to use my life and career as advocacy. I didn’t grow up seeing many people who looked like me or acted like me when I was growing up, and I hope to be that person for young disabled, queer, & trans kids. There’s nothing more fulfilling than hearing I inspired a young queer person.
Alongside acting and theatre-making, I am a book club facilitator - currently at Queer Reads Bristol. I am also a CIOF Certified Fundraiser and am the Development Officer at Open Up Music.
I’m an avid book lover, and can literally always be found carrying around a book. My favourite books include: A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara,The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt, and Babel by RF Kuang. Other than books and the arts - that’s pretty much it!
